Rota is located to the north of Cadiz city just acroos the bay of Cadiz, it is a quaint Spainish seaside resort visited mainly by the Spanish but international visitors are catered for.
Today, Rota has about 25,000 residents. Rota has all of the charm of the old style Andalusian villages, especially in the old historic center of the village, with it´s narrow streets and whitewashed walls. In the time of the Tartars, Rota was known as Astaroth, all of it´s streets ended at the fishing port and was surrounded by 14km of fine sand beaches and in some areas with natural dunes and pine forests
Rota is surrounded by 16 km of beaches and is famous for their beauty. La Costilla is considered by many to be the best beach in Spain; it is located in front of the town and stretches for 4 kilometres. The waters are crystal clear and the sand is fine and golden. The beach is edged by massive pine trees.
The other beaches the Rib, the Rompidillo, Virgen del Mar, El Chorrillo, Punta Candor and la Ballena beach.
A visit to the fish market at the harbour of Pesquero Astaroth is a must. Here you'll see the shellfish and fish catches of the day at what is known as the most famous fish market on the Cádiz coast.
