Santa Ponsa is situated on the south west coast of Mallorca, 13 miles
southwest of Palma, 19 miles from the airport and three miles southwest
of Magaluf. This is a densely populated resort that is generally family
orientated but which has a good balance of beach and nightlife. There
are many bars and late night venues, as well as some discos and clubs,
although it is not as lively as the neighbouring resorts of Palma Nova
and Magaluf. Golfers can choose from number of courses in vicinity. It
is especially popular with both Irish and Scottish visitors and there
is a large number of both Irish and Scottish themed bars and
restaurants in the town. Santa Ponsa beach is quite large and in recent years it has been extended with imported sand to accommodate an increasing number of visitors to the resort. Nevertheless, in high season it can still become very crowded. There is a smaller secondary beach of Calo d'en Pellicer that is set in its own sheltered cove and is about 15 minutes walk away. Swimming is generally safe, with few strong currents and fairly shallow waters. Shopping facilities at the resort of Santa Ponsa consist of a supermarket on main road from Palma, minimarkets distributed among apartment complexes and in the resort centre, banks, stalls and souvenir shops. Santa Ponsa has a summer bus service to Palma and the main destinations in between.
