Central Algarve
Central Algarve includes the resort of Vilamoura and Albufeira, probably the two most popular golfing destinations in the Algarve.
Vilamoura is where it all started and has grown to be one of the biggest golf complex in Europe, boasting 7 courses most of which compare with the best in Europe.
Vilamoura, is an ambitious purpose-built resort on the central Algarve coast, is one of Europe's largest privately developed tourist havens, offering holidaymakers every form of sport, entertainment and amenity imaginable. The resort is built around a magnificent 1000-berth marina, alongside which are preserved some Roman ruins that were unearthed during construction back in the 1960s. The southern border is lined by a long, sandy beach, overlooked by quality hotels, self-catering apartments, numerous restaurants and shops, and a host of leisure facilities including a casino. Further inland villas nestle in lush gardens between the golf courses. Vilamoura, which means 'Village of the Moors', is designed for pure pleasure for everyone, of any age or orientation. Nature has enhanced the resort with a temperate sunny climate and beautifully landscaped surroundings. Development has been environmentally friendly and tasteful.
Albufeira has gradually become a firm favourite of the golfing fraternity, more of a young man’s resort with nightlife into the small hours and entertainment to suit all tastes. Plenty of bars, restaurants, night spots and surrounded by great golf courses.
Eastern Algarve
The Eastern Algarve is a fast becoming the place to golf, with 6 great golf courses on the Portuguese side of the border and another 9 great courses on the Spanish side of the border.
It is the newest golfing region in Portugal; 10 years ago courses were few and far between.
This area boasts some of the best courses in Portugal including: Monte Rei (a Jack Nicklaus signature course) and the fantastic sister courses of Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria.
If you want value for money in unspoilt Algarve then this is the place for your next golf break
Two of the most popular areas to stay are Tavira and Monte Gordo, the first a typical Portuguese fishing town and the second a resort with a beautiful beach.
