Holiday Insurance is an additional expense on top of your golf holiday outlay and before you include your spending money, so is it necessary?
We all know that if we travel within the European Economic Area the European Health Insurance Card (Previously known as the E111 scheme) gives complete cover in a health emergency and outside of the EEA we are covered by reciprocal healthcare agreements aren’t we?
The European Health Insurance card only covers you if you have this card with you when abroad in EEA, each member of your family should have a card.
The card is free and to apply online go to https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do or call 0845 6062030
REMEMBER this card only covers basic national healthcare as received by local residents and this varies wildly between member states; in some countries you are required to pay for all prescriptions (And some drugs are prohibitively expensive), the cost of hospitalization, ambulance costs, taxi and telephone costs during your hospitalization and the list goes on.
To avoid a holiday from hell you need both EHIC and holiday insurance to be fully covered. Fewer than 60 countries have reciprocal healthcare agreements with the UK.
